TaxHelper

Privacy policy

Last updated: May 2026. TaxHelper ("we", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and your rights under UK GDPR.

1. Who we are

TaxHelper is a free UK tax information and calculator service. We are based in the United Kingdom. For data protection queries please contact us via our contact page.

2. What data we collect and why

Calculator inputs

All salary and tax calculations run entirely in your browser. We do not log or store your calculator inputs unless you explicitly create an account and save a result. Saved calculations are stored against your account and can be deleted at any time.

Account data

If you create an account, we store your email address and any preferences you set. We use this solely to provide the service (saved calculations, Self Assessment reminders, notification preferences). We do not share this data with third parties.

Newsletter and reminder subscriptions

If you subscribe to our newsletter or Self Assessment email reminders, we store your name and email address to send those communications. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email we send.

Server logs

Our hosting provider may record standard server access logs (IP address, browser, page visited) for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention purposes.

3. Cookies

Essential cookies

We use a small number of essential cookies required for the site to function — for example, to keep you logged in if you have an account. These do not require your consent.

Advertising cookies (optional — requires consent)

To help fund the free service, we display advertisements via Google AdSense. AdSense may use cookies to serve relevant ads. For users in the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland, Google's consent management platform (CMP) will ask for your consent before any advertising cookies are set. You can manage or withdraw your consent at any time via the "Manage options" link shown in the consent banner, or by clearing your browser cookies and re-visiting the site.

Outside those regions, advertising may be shown without a consent prompt in accordance with applicable law. We implement Google Consent Mode v2 so that all signals are denied by default until consent is given.

Analytics (optional — no cookies)

We may use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-first tool that does not use cookies and does not collect personal data. It simply counts page views without identifying individuals. No consent is required for Plausible.

4. Third-party services

We do not sell your data, run retargeting campaigns, or share your information with any other third parties.

5. Your rights under UK GDPR

You have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us via the contact page.

6. Data retention

Account data is retained while your account is active. Newsletter and reminder subscriptions are retained until you unsubscribe. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the last change. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance.
